The Bravo Network has brought me many joys- no kidding.  Project Runway, Top Chef and Law and Order marathons could make up for many grievances, but even I am offended by the Real Housewives of franchise.   
Beyond the hideous subway posters, the awful promos, and the barrage of Housewives at every Bravo opportunity, there is something hideous at the core of this series.  It’s addictive in true reality show fashion, yet I am completely unable to revel in my horrible slobbishness while I’m eating chips and watching these insipid women waste their lives and my time- I start to feel bad, then I feel horrified and finally I turn off the show half an hour in and fall to some productive task.  

I can’t help but ridicule these women, and they bring it on themselves by displaying their vapidity, snobbishness and general ignorance on television.Beyond the obviousness of their unintentional crusade against feminism, these women are putting a mirror to America’s luxury needing, spending and lazy face.  The women on this show NEVER betray any symptom of humanity; even their “charity work” is used as face time, for title flaunting, bragging rights, and banquets they can dress up for.   Truly wretched, these women only are worse when you, the viewer, remember that THEY’RE MOTHERS and their children are also horrifying examples of shitty American consumerism and close mindedness.  Their tastes are gaudy and obscene, many of them act like children, they all pretend to “have it all”- a catchphrase born in the Sex and the City culture that I cannot stand.  

It is supremely frustrating to see these adult women, who have been given the spotlight for whatever reason, continue to act like stereotypical, shopping obsessed, botox-loving, gossipy Mean Girls.  Is this what women in America are, or aspire to be like?  I want to know if it’s a minority they’re televising, or a awful reality I’ve been lucky enough to avoid until now.  ARE THESE REAL HOUSEWIVES?  WHAT IS A HOUSEWIFE NOW?I just want a smart women who acts NORMAL to get a show for once!  Can we get some positive examples on the teevee please!
