Struggle

So yeah, times ARE tough and the economy does suck.  How do I know?  Like a dummy, I quit my job and am now looking for one.  And it is hard, and I am even having difficulty finding a coffee shop job- and I am qualified in coffee work.  I kind of didn’t believe the economy was taking a hit before, but now oh boy do I.  With not owning a home, and not owning any stocks, I felt impervious to the financial collapse, and I only saw it for real in the news.

And Detroit auto industry difficulties- I cannot imagine living in Detriot and preparing for HARDER times than they already ARE.  Detriot is a dying city, and having lived in the dying city of Buffalo, NY I know the trials and tribulations of residing in a place that is slowly becoming more dangerous and developing less and less.

I can’t imagine New York turning into a dying city, which is the biggest reason I moved here.  I figured there would always be work here, where so many people and companies live.  I find myself worried and in turns, skeptical that the future of New York mirrors the present of Buffalo- a place where people have plans and hopes but can’t get anything done because of the local government and economy.

My personal bit of economical paradox: rent prices.  Rent doesn’t change with the flow of the economy- unless it is going up because you live in a “cool neighborhood”.  Mortgage prices and rates do change, loan interest changes, and prices of gasoline spike and valley, but my freaking rent is still the same.  It’s my biggest expense, and remains unscathed during this economical crisis.  The weird thing?  It’s possible for a landlord to like, refinance or whatever, or get help from the government and make lower payments on my apartment building, and not change the price of my rent.  I think that’s weird at least.
