It is September and only my second September of school-less-ness. I miss the anticipation of a whole new academic year, but I don’t miss the academic year. Every summer’s end, I anticipate fall; looking forward to cooler temperatures, better food and most importantly, the change in fashions. This year my summer clothes were horrible- I can admit that. All I wore were three tee shirts and some skirts. I hate dressing for summer because I hate showing skin. I am at my best in the fall.
So I am preparing already, even though without the school year to guide me, my “fall” starts Septemer, like 20th? 21st? Today I realized my three year old staple, my tweed blazer found at an estate sale, will not hold up. There is no lining I’ve worn it so much, and I need to buy a new blazer. Here’s what I’ve found so far:
This one’s from Banana Republic. I can’t decide to buy this blazer because it’s black. Do I have to buy black because I live in New York City? My true love is brown. Plus my cat has white long hair and this would be a nightmare. My old blazer, which if I could I would re-buy in a less damaged form is a nice brown and beige tweed, with green and red flecks. Once, I accidentally put it on a candle at a restaurant, and one sleeve is singed and smelled bad for a week. I let it air out, trimmed and sewed, and wore it like a thousand more times.
This one, from the Gap, is almost perfect- but I have a sneaky suspicion the cut is for a taller person than I:
I want to be able to wear this as a coat with a hoodie underneath, and as a blazer while I’m at work. Tights are something else I’m searching for, the ones I bought last winter at Target didn’t hold up too well. I want sweater tights, wool tights, tights in ten different colors, and maybe some patterned tights. This site is a tights mecca, and it’ll probably be getting some of my upcoming paychecks.Â
I ripped a button off my favorite cardigan, it’s pilling and I’ve officially worn it 300 days out of the last 352. (The theme for this fall is to replace all the stuff I’ve worn out all year…) I am buying this in every color:
And it comes in about ten. All pretty. I CAN WEAR THIS TO WORK WITHOUT FEELING LIKE AN ALIEN!!!
Fall is perfect clothes time because you can wear pretty much whatever you want and the weather won’t affect you. No more sweating through tee shirts within 5 minutes of the apartment door- I’d rather wish I’d brought my cardigan that wish I’d worn a tank top.
