McCain

I love this picture.  John McCain is hugging President Bush.  Former rivals, this picture shows their reconcilation- and Bush even ran a horribly negative campaign against McCain in 2000!  But whatever, bygones!

If you know someone who is deciding who to vote for in November, don’t get mad when HE says he might vote for John McCain.  That whole “war hero” thing can be a heavy influencer for some voters.  Instead of letting your mind go blank and spluttering “but.. but!” when SOMEONE says “I think I might vote for John McCain” use these reasons to reason against that vote.   TEN THINGS THAT ARE WRONG WITH JOHN MCCAIN

1.  John McCain publicly called his wife a cunt.  No, seriously.  The FULL quote is “Well at least I don’t plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you cunt.”  What did Cindy do to warrant this public shaming?  Affectionately tousle his hair and remark that it was going a little thin.  I mean the man is old, so maybe that’s why he used the word trollop, and it definitly explains the balding, but calling her a cunt?  In  public?  If he used this disrespectful term to his wife over an innocent remark, how will he react to  much bigger problems- such as performance criticism?  (harhar)

2. McCain repeatedly makes mistakes in interviews; mixing up Sunnis and Shi’tes and even mixing up Iran and Iraq.  These large (HUGE) mistakes are due to either senility or ignorance- but which one is a better reason to be completely WRONG about something you claim to be an expert on?  Like his comment that troops in Iraq have been scaled back to pre-surge levels, when they have not.  Either way, his statements are misleading and incorrect.

3.  McCain’s foreign policy conisits of miscalculated and hawkish views.  McCain disparages dimplomacy and negotiation, favoring incendiary remarks such as singing “Bomb Bomb Bomb IRAN” to the tune of the beach Boys.  Global interdependency forbids this kind of outlook- as it makes enemies and is counter-productive to solving problems around the world.

3.  The font of his website is criminal, and his twitter account took up my whole “updates” page the other day, with the same three posts OVER AND OVER.

4.  McCain voted against a waterboarding ban.  Considering that he was a POW in the Vietnam war and suffered torture, you’d think that he would oppose torture in every capacity.  You’d be wrong if you thought that, because McCain caved to the right wing-ers, pretty much asserting that the United States should be allowed to thwart all international torture agreements and engage in waterboarding of our prisoners.

5.  McCain has been consistently anti-choice.  From the horse’s mouth: “I have many, many votes and it’s been consistent, and I’ve got a consistent zero from NARAL.”  Voting for McCain is like voting to repeal Roe v Wade.  From the horse’s website: “John McCain believes Roe v. Wade is a flawed decision that must be overturned, and as president he will nominate judges who understand that courts should not be in the business of legislating from the bench.”

6.  McCain, a former soldier, voted against the expansion of the GI Bill in April, which would have given veterans more benefits, such as a living stipend, scholarships and family benefits.  Why’d he do that?  So people would stay in the army.  When condtions at Walter Reed hospital were found to be deplorable, McCain was a deplorer.  However in Feb 2006, he voted against a Senate amendment providing $19 billion for these facilities, paid for by eliminating tax cuts for the wealthiest earners.  This is another example the the strange hypocrisy he consistently exhibits.

7.  McCain divorced his wife when he got back from Vietnam in 1973.  She had been a swimsuit model, but survived a horrific car crash that left her 5 inches shorter and disfigured.  He philandered, divorced her and re-married a rodeo Queen beer heiress, and was in the House of Representatives by 1982.  What does his website say about family values?

8.  McCain’s campaigning is lame.  How did he rebut Obama’s “Change we can believe in” slogan?  By saying Obama’s “Not change we can believe in.”  Clever- for a two year old.

9.  McCain’s idea for a “gas tax holiday” is a bad idea.  It is counter-productive.  He trumpets it as an economical plan that will improve the lives of Americans, when it wouldn’t.  Pretty much every economist says it’s a bad idea, but McCain has not altered his stance.   Ideas like this one indicate his political tendencies: easy fixes and pandering- but it also shows that McCain, like Bush, is unable to admit  his mistakes or create nuanced opinions or policy.

10.  This website shows what he’ll look like in four years.
