Here’s my newest borderline insane tech product I’d like to see developed.

To the bloggers out there whose income depends on traffic from just-broken stories: Yeah, I know, all twelve of you.

You know the biggest news can happen overnight. You know someone will beat you to the punch.

You make the compromise, and you choose to occasionally sleep anyway.

But what if someone wrote a script that would automatically check your inbox, feed reader, Twitter stream, or whatever for keywords.

Then, say the keywords “Microsoft acquires Yahoo” run through a feed.

And the script notices and sends you an SMS.

Hell, you could even leave your phone on vibrate and set it to only ring (or a special ring) for these rare occasions.

You roll over, see the first 140 or so characters of the story, bust out the laptop…

2. Go to bed
3. ????
4. PROFIT!
