(When you see who hacked it, you’ll shit a brick)
It turns out that sloppy HTML is to blame for the recent “hack” and redirect of Obama’s site to HillaryClinton.com.
Why is this funny (aside from the assumption that this person was a Clinton supporter)?
Because every time something like this happens–particularly when it involves politics or major corporations, it’s always presented as if this technique was performed in a basement in Soviet Russia by a bunch of computer terrorists with too much time on their hands.
And it’s always sloppy AJAX or some shit.
Apparently some guy named Mox has claimed responsibility saying, “While I could have redirected the site elsewhere, I chose hillaryclinton.com mostly for mild-to-moderate safe-lulz.”
So Obama’s website let you put quotation marks and less than and greater than signs into the URL, which lets you write little javascript candy for profit.
Such a simple, dumb thing to have happen, and it seems like this kind of stuff happens all the damn time.
Why this is really funny: Because people will honest to goodness think that this has something to do with politics. Ever noticed a quirk about a website that you can easily exploit with Javascript? Yeah, me too, and I did it to point out the programmer’s shitty code, not to spoil an election.
