Misogyny

April 10th, 2008 · 3 Comments

or- “I will eat you and call you a misogynist if you don’t vote for me.”

So this guy I work with didn’t believe me that the word misogyny is a word.  That was pretty surreal but today when I looked at google trends I saw “misogyny” in the top twenty hot trends.  And seeing that made me wonder if something specific triggered this.  I’ve decided it was a bunch of people like my co-worker who didn’t know it was a word.  Because I guess now Hillary Clinton minion Elton John has called America a misogynist.

So people saw this news story, right and were all “what the heck’s a miso-ga-whatty?”  and googled it.  I must confess, I am a little dissapointed because I had hoped there would be some high purpose behind all of this.  But I really have to get this of my chest:

Hillary Clinton and fans of her:

Just because someone doesn’t like you (or your candidate) it doesn’t mean they’re a misogywhatty.  Some people have different preferences.  You will notice this when going out for a meal at a restaurant with some friends.  You won’t all order identically.  (omgz jonny is racist against chickens!)  Believe it or not, people have reasons for supporting whomever they support.  I am not saying that misogyny is non-existent.  Anyone watching last night’s episode of Top Chef would agree- OMG SPIKE WAS SUCH A DICK TO ZOI AND ANTONIA!  So does not agreeing with Hillary Clinton make you a misogynist?  If I think Obama needs more legislative or executive experience am I a racist?  Why is Elton John of all people labeling America as misogynist?  That makes me mad, because isn’t he a goddam BRIT?  I hate Brits now.

But seriosly, some perspective please before you go calling all of the people living in a country something that even though most of them might not know what it means it is still offensive.
