Gardening was an activity my mother made me do when I was young, ie: her slave. My sister and I would receive lists of chores, mostly with the header TO DO THIS WEEK. Sometimes one of the tasks was weeding. A couple of times a summer we had to deadhead rows and rows of petunias; the most disgusting chore ever to be delegated to anyone ever. I don’t blame my mom for giving us these lists, in fact when I have kids they will also get lists. BUT I will not be planting any petunias anytime soon- or ever.
Which is weird, because these past two years I have had a hankering to garden. Now that I live in New York City, I’ve been brainstorming ways to incorporate gardening into my life. Weeding a garden is relaxing. Planting seeds is fun. So I’ve made some plans for the spring to let a little plant life into my life. HERE THEY ARE!

I am going to take advantage of my fire escape. I have scoped out the local gardening shop, and I’ve found some really nice hanging pots. I’m going to buy two, and load them up with really colorful flowers. I am considering morning glories, daisies and peonies. The colors I have in mind are: red, orange, yellow and white. Pretty much the brightest things I can find.
Hopefully, the fire escape will turn into a flower-woven paradise.
I am going to make a mini herb garden, and put it near a window. I love the way basil, thyme, and rosemary smell. I am going to make little signs out of paint and popsicle sticks. And maybe something with little rocks, because little rocks are really cute.

I found these adorable little potted fruit plants. They had these little pots with strawberry, grape, raspberry and blueberry bushes. There’s something really appealing about owning my own strawberry plant. I am going to buy a few of these, and put them in a tray on my fire escape. Then I am going to bake a pie. Then I am going to go vase shopping.
