Operation Chaos: Just an awesome name?

March 25th, 2008 · 4 Comments

——STFU RUSH!

Rush Limbaugh, we can all agree, has an inflated sense of importance. He is also annoying, a trait i can ignore most of the time since I don’t listen to his show. Until he starts issuing edicts and interfering with the ACTUAL political process. He’s done that, by telling Pennsylvanians who are registered as republicans to switch their registration to democrat in time for the Pennsylvania primaries, the deadline being yesterday. This should mess up the results and elongate the democrat’s nominee-ship. He’s calling it Operation Chaos, which is a really good name. It’s not fair that a windbag like Limbaugh gets to make up large-scale, awesomely named projects. Limbaugh’s plan is the “create chaos” within the democratic nominating process, in order to ensure a republican victory come November. To this I say the same thing I said to the Dallas Stars in 1999: Is it even worth winning if you have to cheat?

Wreaking havoc on the political process is fun though, which must be why people have been so into it these days. I mean, this is Limbaugh’s second run this year, hell, this month! He told all the Texans and Ohio-ans to vote for Hillary. I mean, even Howard Dean and the DNC are doing it, what with their fuck-ups in Michigan and Florida. All this crazy controversy is making me want to say “DO OVER!” to our federal government.

But the problem is- and we don’t know the answer to this- How much will Limbaugh’s Project Of Chaos actually effect turnout? Do people actually listen to him? Or I guess I mean, do they share his enthusiasm for Operation Chaos enough to do the work of switching registrations and going to the voting booths for a candidate they do not support, in effect undermining the whole democratic electoral system in the United States? They listen to him already, I mean on his radio show at least. LOL.

The other side of the story, that no one is really mentioning, is the fact that prolonged PARTY battles may actually strengthen the nominee’s platform in a general election. The logic is this- fighting within your party builds you up for the big leagues, and it uses up all the arguments against you before it actually matters. For example: If Hillary won, McCain couldn’t call into question her tax or First Lady records since the ground would have been well-worn and covered by then. No one would care. If Obama won, McCain would not really be able to talk about Rezko or Wright; both the electorate and the media would be bored already. So maybe Project Chaos is actually helping whomever wins the democratic nomination by testing them in battle.

I guess we have to wait for the exit polling, but the question is clear- what should happen to Rush Limbaugh now that he is publicly condoning and encouraging electoral tampering? Should this stuff be illegal? Is this worse than anything Howard Stern ever said? Whatever, maybe the dems will be thanking him in November.

Wish we could vote for ron paul in the general elections… I really don’t like any of the candidates and I am not going to vote for someone just because they are the lesser evil. I hate this shit.
