 
Hi, I’m a Pole and here is Dyngus Day. We Poles like to party, which is why we celebrate extra days of the holidays most people get one of. This theory explains both Dyngus Day and Wygilia. Dyngus Day, the day following Easter, is a day of joy for Polish people.  Doesn’t that peasant woman look like she’s having a blast? First off, Dyngus Day is also called Wet Monday. Doesn’t that remind you of sex, a little?Â
I grew up with Dyngus Day and I seriously thought my parents MADE IT UP. I mean what culture would think it would be fun to “early in the morning boys awake girls by pouring a bucket of water on their head and strike them about the legs with long thin twigs or switches.” WTF? But no, it’s tradition. Which I found out one year when we went to the Broadway Market, a famous indoor Polish market in Buffalo and a news crew interviewed my embarassed little sister. “So what do you do with the pussy willows?”
So Dyngus Day is fervently celebrated in the United States in areas of the country with high Polish populations. According to Wikipedia, the parties even rival St. Patrick’s Day parties. However, everyone knows St. Patrick’s Day is for the amateurs.Â
In case you missed it, on Wet Monday, men pour water on sleeping girls while hitting them with pussy willows. This is all a big hoax so that Polish people can flirt with each other- I think. Dyngus Day is all about fertility rites. Pouring water on girls = maybe I can pour semen on you later?  Pussy willows as weapons = you like it rough? Well maybe it just symbolizes a peniz or something.  Oh noes, I am getting all excited and indignant at the same time.Â
