Today on the train into work I was literally sandwiched between Seldon Hunt (black metal graphic artist revolutionary) and Tim Harrington (Les Savy Fav beatnik crazy).
To put this into perspective, I was sandwiched between these two men:

Keep in mind that Mr. Fav was not covered in filth, and Mr. Earth was still 7 feet tall.
I’ve had the opportunity to meet Seldon Hunt on two occasions (he was kind enough to offer the cover art for my new album), and have run into Tim Harrington occasionally in Williamsburg.
But here’s what’s crazy.
Both of these artists have been or still are Gods among men to me. Key players in my imaginary musical universe.
So why weren’t they talking to each other?
I bet if I even introduced them to each other, they’d have no idea who the other was. No recognition at all.
I’m supposed to be an adult now, but this blew my mind apart.
If Nicole Kidman and Paris Hilton were both riding the train together, wouldn’t you expect them to be talking to each other? Wouldn’t you expect them to be familiar with each other’s work?
So what the hell, then? Is it because musicians don’t have to show their faces to get their point across, or is it something bigger?
Why do I expect that the musicians I listen to live in a strange parallel universe together, where everybody drinks the same water and eats the same prepared sanwiches?
Am I alone on this?

Heh, small world!
And nothing embarrassing. Though I think that morning coffee dribbled out of the side of my mouth and stained my jacket.
That’s the train for ya.

@seldonhunt
For the sake of easing my mind, are you familiar with Tim Harrington’s work?
