I’m about to lay out precisely and simply the most significant difference between Old Web (1.0) and New Web (2.0).
Old Web: Do we have to link? Well, we better open up a new browser window to make sure we don’t lose ‘em!
New Web: Our users are our trusted friends! Our product is so good that they’ll come back!
It’s that simple, folks.
And I don’t know about you, but while I love the new mutual trust between me and the developer, I still have my issues.
For instance, every time I click a link on Dave Winer’s Scripting News, I end up having to type the address bar back into my browser after closing out of the recommended site.
My muscle memory in my clicky finger is still PMS (Pre-Myspace).
It’s unfortunate that I can’t be weened into this new developer-user trust, because that would just double my confusion.
So I would like to announce to you, my trusted user, my last use of target blank:

i thought this post was going to be about the intructions to build any furniture you might buy form target. THAT SHIT MIGHT AS WELL BE BLANK.

good point, but i’m not sure the use of target blank is covered in O’ Riley’s model.
