Dumb idea of the day: A new web application!

February 28th, 2008 · No Comments

What did you do all day?

Various Problems:

“When did I start doing this?”

“How long have I been doing this for?”

“How long ago was it that I put the laundry in the dryer?”

“Did Bob Whitney start editing the data pivot spreadsheet yet, or should I begin with my own edits?”

Solution:

A twitter-like app that will ask you a simple question such as “What are you starting right now?” that can run seamlessly with automated updates to your web browser, phone, or IM.

You’d be able to set the automated updates and questions for whatever settings you’d like, of course, and to make it a bit less intrusive maybe we’d throw in some random fact, trivia, or something else dumb like that.

SMS updates would be great for real-world problems like “Thursday, Feb 28, 2008. 3:32 PM. Bob Whitney has begun editing the data pivot.”

These updates would be snagged and automatically added to a web page for viewing later. Friends, collegues, etc could be invited to share updates, again viewable in a twitter-like fashion.

Never again will you struggle to answer the question “What have you done all day?” or sit on your hands waiting for an email or twit regarding a teammate’s status on a project.

Plus it’d be great for those of us who freelance.

Any thoughts?
